The 'self-publishing' version of a 'Selfie.'
Patience is a virtue, they say. Self-publishing is a rod that any sensible person would usually avoid---unless you get so far along the road; you know--that point of no return, whereby you just have to complete the journey or face the certainty that you will regret having never travelled that extra mile! The bills mount, the tension builds and the nerves fray, all because you had a dream of getting your book 'out there.' Having chosen the pathway a few years ago, I guess I have reached that point---'it's all or nothing time!'
So, tonight I am sending out 20 copies of ROSKILL, to a list of reviewers, ranging from newspapers, radio stations and magazines. Then there's the various bodies representing book shops and associations for libraries and teachers. Some will quickly discard my book while others will not even open the package--who knows? Either way, I will know that I have given it my best shot. I owe getting this far to a group of professionals and even though that cost a great deal of money, I have no regrets. I would advise anyone wanting to emulate and better my efforts to plan ahead. You can't do this on your own, unless you have remarkable talents and a good serving of 'Lady Luck.'Now---it's a waiting game and over the next few weeks I shall be papering my wall with rejection slips or with lots of 'sweet nothings,' because they were too busy or were not interested in my book. The re-launch is September the third, 2014 and the following day is my birthday. You know what I want for a present!
